Why the North?

The North of Ireland and Donegal together form one of the most strikingly beautiful and culturally rich regions in Europe, often overlooked, but never forgotten by those who visit. From the dramatic cliffs of Antrim to the haunting legends of Donegal’s glens, this tour explores a side of Ireland where the land speaks, history lives, and tradition thrives. With ancient folklore, poignant history, and epic landscapes, this journey captures the untamed and unforgettable soul of the North.

Day 1: Dublin to Belfast – A City Transformed and The Titanic

Depart from Dublin and travel north through the green heart of Ireland, arriving in Belfast, Northern Ireland’s dynamic capital. Once synonymous with conflict, Belfast is now a thriving city of culture, innovation, and artistic expression.

Explore its layered past on a guided city tour, taking in the grand architecture of City Hall, the revitalised Cathedral Quarter, and striking street murals. Visit the world-famous Titanic Belfast, an award-winning museum built on the slipways where the ship itself was constructed.

Highlights:

  • Scenic journey from Dublin to Belfast

  • Expert-led city tour

  • Titanic Belfast experience

Day 2: The Antrim Coast – Giants, Cliffs, Causeways, and Breathtaking Views

Today, follow the coastal route north along the Antrim Coast, one of Ireland’s most spectacular drives.

Walk the natural wonder of the Giant’s Causeway, a surreal formation of 40,000 hexagonal basalt columns that has inspired myths of ancient giants and battles across the sea. Your guide will bring the folklore of this fascinating landscape vividly to life.

Then, visit the dramatic clifftop ruins of Dunluce Castle, whose crumbling towers and sea-swept arches tell tales of medieval grandeur and ghostly mystery.

Later, enjoy a curated cultural stop, such as a visit to a local artisan workshop, a heritage farm, or a coastal craft village, where you’ll connect with the living traditions of the region.

Highlights:

  • Giant’s Causeway walk and folklore

  • Dunluce Castle visit

  • Coastal views and scenic photo stops

Day 3: Derry – Ireland's Walled City, and The Troubles

Continue to Derry, Ireland’s only fully walled city and a powerful place of story and resilience.

Walk the 17th-century city walls with a local guide who brings to life centuries of conflict, culture, and renewal—from the Siege of Derry to the civil rights movement and modern reconciliation. Explore the vibrant street art of the Bogside, visit the Museum of Free Derry, or enjoy a quiet coffee overlooking the River Foyle.

Derry is a city that does not shy away from its past—and offers a hopeful view of the future.

Highlights:

  • Guided tour of the historic walls

  • Insights into the Troubles and peace process

  • Free time to explore museums and local shops

Day 4: Beautiful Donegal – Stories, Castles, and Connecting With Nature

Cross into County Donegal, one of the wildest, most poetic parts of Ireland. The landscape shifts into rolling glens, rugged coastlines, and towering mountains.

Visit Glenveagh National Park for an incredibly scenic lakeside trail or take a stroll through the gardens. Enjoy a walk inside Glenveagh Castle.

End the day by arriving at a secluded location for a truly unique experience: a private folklore session with one of Donegal’s most renowned seanchaí (traditional storytellers). Through myth, legend, and humour, you’ll hear stories passed down through generations. Tales of faerie folk, ancient heroes, and the spirit of the land itself.

Enjoy a final evening of reflection, music, or simply a walk along the shore.

Highlights:

  • Scenic journey through Donegal’s glens and coast

  • Visit to Glenveagh Castle & National Park

  • Private storytelling session with a legendary Donegal seanchaí

Day 5: Slieve League & the road to Dublin – Final Reflections

Begin the return to Dublin through the landscapes of rural Ulster. Pause along the way for a scenic stop or heritage site visit before arriving in the capital by early evening.

Ireland Beyond The Surface

This is immersive cultural travel for curious people - a deeper, more personal way to experience Ireland.

This is not a tour built around ticking landmarks off a list. It’s designed for travellers who want to truly understand Ireland; its history, politics, culture, mythology, music, and identity. Many tours focus on where you go. We focus on what you discover along the way.

Through expert storytelling, meaningful conversations, and deep local insight, you’ll experience the Ireland most visitors never get to see - the stories behind the landscapes, the history behind the divisions, and the traditions that still shape everyday life today.

Guests regularly tell us they learned more in six days with us than they did in years of reading or previous visits to Ireland.
